Georg Heike was born on 21 July 1933 in Lodz (Poland). After graduating from high school, he studied musicology, phonetics, communication research and psychology in Bonn (Germany). In 1960 he earned his doctorate under Werner Meyer-Eppler.
Heike took violin and piano lessons and intensively studied harmony and counterpoint, since 1985 also viola playing. Together with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Heike was a lecturer and collaborator at the Cologne Courses for New Music.
Since 1969 he has held a professorship for Phonetics at the University of Cologne, since 1998 Heike has been emeritus. Since then he has been mainly engaged in composition and publications in the field of music and language. Georg Heike now lives in Bad Münstereifel and Blankenheim.
