La Follia (Corelli, op. 5, No. 12), for Violin and Viola

The arrangement of the Sonata op. 5 No.12, the so-called «Follia» by Arcangelo Corelli for violin and viola (VV 102), also comes from Georg Heike. The original reason for this arrangement was the idea to use the perceptible two-part arrangement of this sonata, in which not only the violin dominates in the alternation of variations, but also the bass several times, for a duo version. In some of the variations, the figurations of the violin dominating the original were divided between the two instruments (partly in a bar-wise alternation), giving the viola grateful tasks. In this form, the work is also ideal for teaching.
